As many of you know, Steven and I spend a lot of time in and around the Blue Ridge Mountains of North Carolina. Until recently, I only wanted to shoot photography there in the fall and spring, with an occasional trip in winter. Summer was not my favorite time, even though I love the cooler mountain temperatures. I thought summer did not offer enough contrast in colors. So wrong!
Last weekend, we were staying near Maggie Valley and spending much of our time on that end of the Parkway. Even though it was the middle of July, wildflowers were blooming like it was early summer. This shot is from a small section where we found an explosion of wildflowers, including red bee balm and Turk’s cap (American tiger lily).
What I learned from this trip was that summer can offer great opportunities for beautiful and interesting things to see and photograph.
