JPEG or RAW?

JPEG and RAW are photo file formats on most cameras not of the point and shoot type. You will hear of photographers shooting in both formats, though I believe the majority of serious photographers shoot using RAW.

Shooting in JPEG allows your camera to make choices for you but limits the amount of post processing. It compresses the file, making it smaller, which is great for storage but you lose data.

RAW gives you maximum control but the files take up a lot more space. The wonderful thing about RAW is that the sensor captures much more data for that image.

Steven and I shoot using the RAW format. This saves so much more information and to me, this is where the artistic part of photography can really shine with your post processing.
