The Not-So-Quiet Year

Well, from a blog standpoint, it has been a very quiet year. On a personal level, it’s been a clown car of crazy.
Our last blog, at this site, was October 7th of last year. A few days after this post, my last living parent, my father, passed away. Anyone who has had to deal with the aftermath of a parent’s death knows how your time and emotions can be consumed with all the things that have to be taken care of for months to come.
When things finally settled down, Steven and I lost our collective minds and decided to put our house on the market (think painting, re-carpeting, reroofing, moving things out, etc.). The house went under contract very quickly and we were so excited, until we weren’t. Shortly before closing, the buyers changed their minds. In the interim, we had rented a place in the mountains, close to where we wanted to settle and had moved some furniture in.
So, what to do now?
We put the house back active on the market and decided to make use of the rental. That decision afforded us the wonderful opportunity of being where we want to be, at times we would not normally be able to be there. Before, we were limited to weekends or vacations. Now, Steven works remotely from the rental, but when he is finished for the day, we frequently grab our cameras and head out. This flexibility has been both eye opening and rewarding.
The next few months, I will be posting about our experiences living in the mountains, especially during my favorite time here, autumn!
