The recent cooler sunny days, here in the mountains of North Carolina, have been a welcome relief from a summer of rain, heat, and humidity. While these conditions can be a bit uncomfortable for we mere mortals, the local plant life adores it.

A few days ago, Steven and I were discussing how, from early spring to late fall, there is always some type of flower blooming here.  While we love shooting large, beautiful landscapes, we also are drawn to the enchanting smaller moments found in wildflowers.  It’s a win-win if we can combine both.

The picture above was taken recently with wild sunflowers in the foreground.

Near to our house, goldenrod is starting to bloom on the Blue Ridge Parkway, a sure sign fall is on the way.  Summer is drawing to a close.
