An Unexpected Surprise

A few weeks ago, Steven and I were on the Blue Ridge Parkway, near Little Switzerland, where we were hoping to capture a pretty sunrise. Right as the sky was getting a little light in it, we noticed the strangest thing in the sky. We both were wondering, “Is it a plane or a comet?” though it moved very slowly and somewhat horizontally across the sky. The front was a point of light and there were starburst type light trails behind it. We both thought, could it be a rocket? I will add that I was really hoping it wasn’t a missile.
While we were there, a mother with a young child came up to watch the sunrise. Steven and she spoke for a bit and he shared the observation. She mentioned that it might have been a Space X launch. Sure enough, when we were able to check, there was a Space X 9 rocket launched from Jacksonville, Florida, at that time.
Not what we expected, but what a nice surprise. One of nicest things about photography is that you never know what you may see when you go out to shoot.
